she/her/hers

Ever since my first encounters with Gestalt Therapy and EMDR, I have been continually amazed by the power of transformation inherent in these approaches, supporting the innate ability of every human being to heal.

In my private practice in New York, I welcome individuals, couples and groups from all walks of life. I am a German-American and I identify as white, cisgender female, and offer services in English and German, both virtually and in person.

I integrate my training in EMDR and Gestalt Therapy with transpersonal approaches and Sensorimotor psychotherapy, focusing on working with trauma, attachment, relationships, addiction, spirituality, anxiety, grief and loss, as well as the creative process. I’m particularly interested in supporting people to develop an awareness practice that supports ongoing exploration and transformation of unconscious patterns and fragments into moments of choice, integration, and growth.

In addition to working in Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse, I have been supervising and teaching in various settings throughout the years including the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, Brooklyn College, National Institute for Psychotherapies etc. As an approved consultant through the Parnell Institute and EMDRIA, I also offer EMDR supervision for individuals and groups.

I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development through contemplative practice and diverse trainings including Meditation, Transparent Communication, Whiteness Learning and Racial Literacy Group etc.

Certification as Gestalt Therapist

I fell in love with Gestalt Therapy as a client in my 20s while still living in Germany. I received my Gestalt Therapy training at the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies lead at the time by Duey Freeman, Victoria Story and Duane Mullner. The institute’s intensive training combines theoretical concepts with an emphasis on attachment, human development and experiential process, which provides a unique and inspiring learning experience. Through each relationship with my teachers, therapists and fellow students, I have grown as a human being and a therapist. I continue to receive in depth Gestalt supervision as well as training in gestalt couple's therapy with Marla Silverman.

Masters in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology

I graduated from the Masters program in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. The program is based on a transpersonal and contemplative orientation, which considers the interplay between psychological and spiritual approaches. I had the great fortune to learn from Carla Clements, Fleet Maull, Dale Asrael, and Bruce Tift, to name a few. The study of traditional approaches to counseling is enhanced by theoretical and experiential understanding of transpersonal concepts, as well as Eastern wisdom traditions. The contemplative orientation fosters the development of an attentive, spacious, and compassionate state of being that I intend to bring to every encounter—grounded and inspired by my own contemplative practice. I continue to study Transpersonal Psychology because in my view a holistic perspective of mental health needs to include the spiritual dimension of human experience.

EMDR

I received my training in EMDR through Dr. Laurel Parnell and the Parnell Institute. I love the powerful process of working with trauma and life’s challenges with a focus on attachment. I appreciate the applications of EMDR to address developmental, racial, and ancestral trauma as well as working with prejudices/privilege, addictions etc.

I am a consultant and facilitator for the Parnell Institute, and also an EMDRIA approved consultant. I provide supervision for EMDR therapists in training for certification or for therapists, who want to receive ongoing supervision individually or in a group.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

I received Level 1 training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a somatic psychotherapy approach developed by Dr. Pat Ogden, focusing on attachment, development, trauma and the body. The training deepened my understanding of trauma and integrated beautifully with my Gestalt Training.

Diploma in Social Work

The 4-year full-time training in Germany, taught me to employ a systemic perspective, which means I see a person in the context of her or his life: resources, support system, power dynamics, cultural and societal forces, significant others or lack thereof. Depending on a person’s situation, we might include developing resources and support, skill building, and community aspects as part of the process.
